LAKELAND | Charles Wang started off Stage I of the Web.com Tour Q-School with five consecutive birdies en route to a 4-under par 68 at Grasslands Golf & Country Club during the first round of play. Wang, who teamed up with Tour caddy B.J. Pitzen for the first time in competition, sat in a tie for eleventh place after the first round (the cut line was at 3-under par after day one). Wang continued his hot start during the second round of play on Wednesday going 4-under par after the first five holes. Wang also eagled the par-4 No. 11 to keep the momemntum in the right direction after two consecutive bogeys on Nos. 9 & 10. Wang fired a 3-under-par 69 to remain tied for 11th place and stay inside the overall cut line (there were 23 players at 5-under par or better after day two). The 18-year old, who hails from Beijing, China and currently resides in Bradenton, fired a 5-under par 67 during round three after carding seven birdies, including three consecutive front nine birdies on Nos. 4-6. Wang also birdied the formidable 16th and 17th holes respectively. Wang moved up the leaderboard into a tie for 8th place to vault to five shots clear of the cut line (there were 24 players at 7-under or better after day three). Wang shot 3-under par on his front nine Friday during round four and cruised in to end up with a 69 to finish at 15-under par 273 in a tie for ninth place. Wang will advance to Stage II of Q-School, and he will most likely compete with Pitzen on his bag at Plantation Preserve Golf Course in Plantation on November 17-20. The top 23 players and ties advanced to Stage II in November (there were 24 players at 9-under or better and the winner, Doug Letson, shot 20-under par while Garrett Osborne and Mark Blakefield tied for second place at 19-under.
