Riddled by putting woes and an errant shot on #16 into the left environmentally sensitive area, Pitzen carded 83 and was later disqualified despite calling the tournament rules' officials for a ruling. Pitzen was told that he was not allowed to use the cell phone and that he was to play two balls. How is a person supposed to play two balls when he's in an environmentally sensitive area not knowing whether or not the rules officials allow play from it or not?
Despite not being allowed to play from the environmentally sensitive area, other players scores were posted and not disqualified even though they played from environmentally sensitive areas too.
